It’s been a while since the last Society’s Newsletter was sent out, and I apologize for skipping the March issue. It has been a hectic several months, with lots of important commitments that I am attending with, so time just passed by without me noticing. Anyhow, let me impart to you all the past events from over the last five months starting with the society’s Christmas celebration. I can say it was indeed a successful gathering, although some members who usually attend in every society’s event were not present, but there were new faces attending and it is fulfilling to have them. It only means that the Filipino population in Taranaki is growing and it is our vision to meet and greet the new comers. Same outcome with the February event. We had no gathering for both April and May. A special thank you to Gemma, who always managed the stage decorations on our past functions and of course with the help of other enthusiastic people – Janet, Vicky, Maddie and Rose Smith.
During the month of March, we participated in the Taranaki Multi Ethnic Extravaganza were we won the 2nd prize for Float Competition, thanks to the effort of Gemma, May and Gloria for giving us their best to decorate our Float. And as always we presented our Filipino Cultural Dance, together with the Hawera ladies led by Flora Gaunt. I must say the Multi Ethnic is an event that we Filipinos must be keen to participate in, as this is our chance to show our beautiful culture to other Ethnic groups. I am hoping that next year, there will be lots of interest from Filipinos to participate in the parade and perform in the Multi Ethnic Extravaganza.
So what’s next – It will be the most awaited Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 29th June 2019 at 6pm, St James Hall, 24 Lawry Street Moturoa. Pot luck dinner, with some entertainment and a dance after the AGM. Please come along and support your society. David Ban, Jonathan and myself will be standing down from the executive, so it is quite important that all members will attend on this annual meeting to cast your vote, select the new set of officers.
Hence, this will be my last Presidents report. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all the people who supported me during my two year term as the Society’s President. Special thanks to David who encouraged me to join the society. His dedication and interest in the society’s welfare is remarkable. I salute you Dave. And also to my co officers Jonathan, Bing, Gemma, Ulinda, Diane, Janet, Maddie, Jennifer, Rowena Mark and Vicky thank you all. I will always be grateful to you all. It has been quite an experience and we have had some wonderful events over these last few years.
This is also my chance to honor those loyal members, who always put their hands up and invest their time and effort at every society event, like Rose Smith, Clarita, Lulu, Edna, Evelyn and Rose Maxwell.
Once again, I am hoping to see you all on our AGM we also prepare a special program for us to enjoy.
My gratitude to all of you.
GOD Bless us all
